There's something else going on that I'm kind of concerned about, though.
I guess I'm looking for a second opinion as much as help.

I messaged Cohle on the radio to see how he was doing and ask where he was.
And the message I got back was weird.
It started with an apology???
And then we had this strange conversation where it seemed like he was trying to talk to me in code.

And then I think Ben took his radio and started responding, instead.
But he didn't say it was him.
Just pretended to be Cohle.

Yeah, I think I'm with you.
That guy doesn't seem like the type to apologize and Ben doesn't seem the type to pretend o be someone else unless he's being real obvious about it
Or suspect.

Did you get anything out of this code conversation?

I think they're near some really specific birds.
I was trying to get a good location on them and Cohle (I think it was Cohle at that point) went on this tangent about a bird.
Uh... let me check exactly what he said.

The birds are skua.
They're grey-white scavengers with hooked beaks.
And they nest on the ground.
The person in the murder cabin uses them to fletch their arrows.

Sounds like he was trying to tell you they were near the cabin

Guess Ben got impatient about checking it out and dragged the one guy least interested with him
Or maybe he thought to stop him

Maybe.
I’m worried about Ben dying again.
Or Cohle if he’s trying to stop Ben.
Ben helped to save my life, so I really want to give him the benefit of the doubt here.
But when he’s impersonating Cohle and it seems like Cohle is trying to get someone to come after them, it’s hard.

I feel bad saying this, but a lot of my experience with the police hasn’t been very good.
I guess that makes this harder.
I just know some of them can get obsessed with whatever they’re hunting for and hurt people along the way to get to what they want.

Just cause he helped us doesn’t mean he’s not doing something weird now
Also doesn’t make him a bad guy if he is. People do weird things for dumb reasons. Especially cops

You planning on trying to go after them?

Yeah. I need to head up that direction to set up some of the more distant waystations.
I figure I can just sort of start far away and work my way back for some of them.
And if it puts me up where Cohle is, I really want to check on him.
Make sure there's no funny business going on.
If they're around the cabin, they might get hurt or trapped.
And if that happens, I can be close by.

But if you haven't got any other plans...
I could definitely use some back-up.

Soon as this storm calms down, I plan on bringing what I've found to the airbase and then we can head out to whatever heading you've got
