Cyborg 009: Call Of Justice

Jet's appearance is easy enough with his clothes on or if he's human, but his cybernetics might be a little confusing without a reference, especially when they're in full swing. Below are a few reference pics that may be helpful for general visualizing as well as a break down of Jet's abilities.

First, in general, this is the sort of outfit Jet would wear. With his cybernetics activated, Jet's very self-conscious of how he looks in public, so he's more often than not, covered from head to toe. ↴

Jet's skin with his cybernetics, all of his panels closed, would look like normal skin only with 'creases' all across most of it. This is how he would look if he just took his shirt off and wasn't flying around, this is also what he would look like if he was only using the jets in his legs.↴

This is Jet's 'high-speed flight mode.' It's designed to allow him to go to speeds up to Mach 8 and keeps him aerodynamic. While some of the panels are his normal artificial skin, some of it is covered to allow for a more metallic and flight-ready substance to decrease drag as well as be able to withstand his own high speeds.↴

Each of the panels are meant for agility, but some are more specific like flight and navigation.

The 'wing' panels on his back serve as wind deflectors to prevent drag on the boosters housed in Jet's back. These boosters--along with the ones housed in his thighs--allow him to gain more speed and are generally used when he's trying to get somewhere as fast as possible.↴

His legs, while closed, look normal. However, his calves house the main part of his cybernetics, his jets. ~~Jet's jets.~~ His foot completely opens up and allows for the space needed to let the thrusters do their thing. Inside the upper/mid section of his calves is where the turbines are located that pulls the air in and compresses it before it gets mixed with the jet fuel in the combustion chamber which is then ignited and discharged through the nozzle. While never touched upon, it is highly likely that the engines in Jet's legs are turbojet engines, based on his speeds and the general appearance.↴

These panels are exactly what they look like: there to make him streamline. Most of those lay under the skin so they simply slide over into place with just a thought from Jet. One thing of note is the ventilation system located both under his arms and under the chest plates. (The later of which can actually be seen in the picture of Jet's thrusters.) This system keeps Jet's body from overheating and burning out while in flight.↴

There are three sets of panels spanning Jet's arm and while one of them is simply cosmetic (and thus lies closer to his body) the other two are for navigation. Just as a bird uses it's wings to maneuver itself in the air, these panels do the same thing--similar to how a commercial airline's wings will have panels that reposition themselves for in-flight and landing/take-off modes.↴

There are some modifications that have been made to Jet's body that are not nearly as obvious. For instance, his entire skeletal structure has been reinforced to allow him to withstand more damage without breaking bones, translators have been embedded in the aural and verbal processing sections of his brain allowing him to understand and speak all of the languages in the world, depending on where he is/which one he needs.

A good portion of his organs have been replaced or modified as well. His heart has a regulator in it to allow him to control it's speed if he needs to, his stomach has been altered to intake and process the food he eats and then transform it into literal fuel for his cybernetics, his lungs have been 'upgraded' to allow him to need less oxygen so he can breathe in higher altitudes and a lot of the 'unnecessary' organs have been removed or re-purposed to aid his flight abilities. His eyes have been entirely replaced and turned into a sort of monitor/telescope combination. Read-outs and alerts float at the corners of his vision and become more prominent when he focuses on them. He can also use his eyes like cameras and zoom in on targets much further away.↴

Jet's other ability of note is his acceleration device. His device was the prototype that lead to Joe's 40+ years later, so it's not quite as powerful nor does it last as long. That said, it's still a formidable piece of technology when used on someone without the same ability. As the name suggests, it allows Jet to move fast enough to seem to 'disappear' for a brief amount of time. There are side-effects to this ability, however, ones the Black Ghost couldn't change even nearly half a century later. A latent side-effect is that the device speeds up Jet's metabolism, causing him to snack all day and still have room for massive meals. (Not wholly a bad thing seeing as his jet fuel is produced from the substances he consumes.)

The other side-effect is a bit more detrimental. The acceleration device not only uses a lot of energy, but it also causes a lot of wear and tear on the user. After only a few uses or a set amount of time of constant use, Jet's body 'crashes' and the device temporarily burns out.

An idea of how the ability works can be seen in this ~~really dumb~~ commercial. Although it's Joe using it, the execution and idea is the same.↴
